2012 Board of Directors - Election Candidates

The Annual Meeting and Election of Board Directors is set for Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 at 6:00pm at the Nellie Gail Ranch clubhouse. In order to achieve quorum, at least fifty percent (50%) of the Homeowners (i.e. 704 out of 1407 members) must vote. In the event that less than 50% of the membership participate in the annual meeting, either by returning their ballot or appearing in person, then those in attendance may adjourn the meeting to a date not less than 5 nor more than 30 days thereafter, and the quorum at such adjourned meeting shall be lowered to twenty five percent (25%) (i.e. 352 out of 1407 members).

Each year, Nellie Gail Homeowners choose either 2 or 3 members for the Board of Directors. This year three (3) seats are open on the Board with 4 official candidates (listed below). Official ballots will be mailed to each residence (1 ballot per residence, 3 votes per ballot) the beginning of May 2012. Please return your completed ballot to the Nellie Gail Ranch Association Office either by mail or dropped in the ballot box at 25211 Empty Saddle Drive, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.

If you are interested in volunteering to serve on the Board of Directors, please complete the application and submit a full face, digital photograph. Biographical Information: My wife Cheree and I relocated to Orange County 5 years ago for a new job opportunity and are very happy with our decision to live in Nellie Gail.  For the previous 19 years we had lived in Ventura County in a community of estate homes on 2 to 30 acres in the Santa Rosa Valley.  For 18 of those years, I served on the Homeowners Board of Directors and was an active member of many local groups formed to preserve Open Space in the valley.  We have raised two wonderful children, Blake and Brittany, who are now out on their own in the Southern California area. Cheree and I are very active in a number of sports and hobbies, and love to care for our variety of pets (dogs, cats, bird, horses, and goats).

Why do you want to serve on the Board: I have served on the Nellie Gail Ranch Board of Directors for the past two years and as President this past year. I feel that we live in a unique community that requires an active Board of Directors to fairly represent the interests of all homeowners.  With a diverse set of needs that includes equestrians, tennis players, swimmers, hikers, bikers, and other sports enthusiasts we need a balanced approach to managing decisions on behalf of all Nellie Gail Ranch homeowners.  I have 20 years of experience serving on Association Boards with unique requirements and would continue to bring a balanced, community oriented, and fiscally responsible mindset to the Nellie Gail Ranch Board of Directors.

Current Occupation: Engineering Project Manager at Boeing for 25 years. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Civic Activities - Organizations, Positions, Etc.: Served both on the Board of Directors and as Executive Director of a Children's Non-profit organization (Kids Konnected), and for the past 5 years, I have been serving as President of a houseboat time share association. My husband and I are certified for emergency response by the City of Laguna Hills Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Nellie Gail Ranch Activities - Organizations, Positions, Etc.: Five years ago I became very involved in the community, first by volunteering to serve on the Events Committee and later by joining the Emergency Preparedness Committee where I have served as Treasurer for the past 3 years.

While on the Events Committee, I negotiated the park concert and the Christmas decoration contracts, saving the association a considerable amount of money.   We also created new events such as the wine tastings, photography contest and Christmas home decorating contest.  If you attended any of the concerts in the park, prior to last year, you might have seen and heard me as the announcer for the concerts.  I compiled a "How to Book" for all of Nellie Gail events to establish and document a process for each event.  Coordinated the concept and purchase of the concert stage.

As a member of the Emergency Preparedness Committee, I have contributed over 350 hours toward building an emergency preparedness center at the HOA.

For the past 2 years I have been serving on your Board of Directors, first as the Treasurer and currently as the Vice President.

In the past 5 years I have attended all but one Nellie Gail Board meeting and have become very familiar with the issues and process for addressing the challenges that our community faces.

My focus has been and will continue to be on fairness, respect, cost reductions, and open and friendly Board meetings, which allow residents to express their views and participate in guiding board decisions.

Biographical Information: Born and raised in California. I am married to a wonderful man-Dennis for the past 28 years.  We have 2 great dogs and a cat.

Why do you want to serve on the Board: I have a strong desire to serve our community to help keep Nellie Gail a wonderful place to live.  I believe my Project Management skills will be an advantage in overseeing projects, enhancing trail and facilities maintenance and other assets, while improving cost controls and reductions.

I have enjoyed serving on your Board for the past 2 years. I want to ensure that:

  • Everyone is treated with respect.
  • Board meetings are enjoyable.
  • We listen to and weigh all opinions to make the best decisions possible for the greatest good of our community.
  • Each situation is examined on its own merits.

I will do my best to evaluate every issue brought before the board with a logical and open mind.

I pledge to work hard for our wonderful community.
