Weed Abatement Timeline

Trail grading and weed removal is a primary focus for Nellie Gail Ranch trail maintenance crews this month and next.  Consistent with our practice since June 2018 we use organic products to treat weeds such as Avenger Weed Killer, a natural citrus oil-based organic herbicide.

The first priority is grading and filling ruts caused by rain and removing sandbags. The second is removing the weeds from the physical trail (graded dirt path) followed by the large-scale slope weed abatement through the end of May.

Annual Meeting of the Members Director Election and Special Ballot Measures

The ballots for the June 2, 2021, annual meeting for board member election and two special ballot measures have been mailed by the Inspector of Election. Keep an eye out for your ballot within the next few days. Please take time to review the election materials at your earliest opportunity, and have the owner of record, as reflected on the ballot mailing label, complete the ballot and sign the ballot envelope.   You may return your ballot via the postage pre-paid envelope and we will have a ballot box at the office for your convenience as well.

Friday, April 30, 2021 – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
We invite you to visit the Association Clubhouse next Friday for a low-key Open House Ribbon Cutting ceremony to officially welcome back our homeowners and club members.

Although we finished the Clubhouse refresh project last year we have not had the opportunity to show it off for your use and enjoyment due to the restrictions on inside gatherings.  However, due to the County of Orange entering a less restrictive tier we can now open our Clubhouse for use with a maximum capacity of 35 people in the main clubhouse and 15 in the multi-purpose room.

We are excited for you to enjoy the remodeled Association Clubhouse and facilities and invite you to come by, not just for the Open House, but anytime you may want to meet and socialize with your friends.

Kindness Rock Garden

Thank you to our Kindness Rock Garden artist participants!  We have received a number of rocks painted with inspirational messages, kind thoughts and lovely artwork.  We have placed them in planters at the front of our clubhouse entry.  As you visit please look and enjoy and appreciate the love and kindness our artists put into them.

And for those of you who picked up kits but have not turned in your rocks yet, please bring them by so we can keep adding to the collection throughout our Clubhouse entry.  There is no deadline or expiration for kind thoughts and expressions!!

Trails and Safety

Nellie Gail Ranch is in the midst of swarm season. This happens in spring when half of a hive decides to leave the nest, and find a new home elsewhere. Tree branches or in the middle of a tall hedge are popular locations for bees to settle, while the scout bees look for a new home. Once a new location is found, (usually within a couple of days) the bees will move on. If they found a location in your backyard (like an irrigation box), chances are they have made this their new home. Since irrigation boxes are not ideal locations for a beehive, it’s best to call an expert to have them relocated. There are 3 professionals that remove and relocate beehives in the Laguna Hills area. These include Alberta Mirisciotti (949-646-2606); Backyard Bees (714-501-5944); and Dan the Beeman (858-230-0351). Dan only handles large jobs (those located inside walls and chimneys and rafters). Prices to humanely relocate a hive start at $200.00. I hope you’ll call and have your bees relocated instead of exterminated. Our planet needs bees to pollinate fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

Spring Event – Last Weekend to Pick Up Your Kit!

It’s time to spread some love and kindness in Nellie Gail Ranch! Join us in painting some Kindness Rocks that will be displayed in a garden for the community to enjoy. Gather your supplies, your rock painting kit can be picked up at the Tennis & Swim Center, as well as your kind thoughts and sentiments. When considering a message to paint on a rock be sure that it is positive and uplifting. The goal is to inspire someone and make them feel happy when they find one. Imagine the message that you would like to find, chances are it will inspire someone else as well.

When your rock is finished and dry, bring it back to the Tennis and Swim Center for display in our kindness garden.
