Association Clubhouse Restroom Renovation

The following is an update on our construction schedule for the restrooms and bar. Work on the Swim Center restrooms is substantively complete and nearly ready to open. Unfortunately the restroom partitions remain on backorder until February. In order to commence work on the Tennis Center restrooms we have installed temporary partitions in the Swim Center restrooms. Demo on the Tennis Center restrooms will commence Monday.

Meanwhile, we are making progress working on the bar and kitchen buildout. All below ground interior plumbing is complete and the foundation trenches re-poured. Electrical and drywall will soon follow. Appliances are on their way and we have a tentative completion date of the first week of February.

Thank you for your patience as we work to complete these Clubhouse projects that we are confident will enhance the value of your ownership!!

Holiday Hours of Operation

The Recreation Center Tennis & Swim Club will close at noon Friday, December 31st and will be closed all-day New Year’s Day, Saturday, January 1st. The Club will be open on Sunday, January 2, 2022. The Association Business Office will be closed Friday, December 31st.

Mountain Lion Sighting

We received a credible report of a mountain lion spotted in the backyard of a property on the west side of Lost Colt Drive approximately 1 a.m. the morning of December 29, 2021. According to the CA Department of Fish & Wildlife (CADFW), mountain lions may be attracted to the community by the horse and farm animal population. In light of this reported encounter, please keep a close eye on your horses, alpacas, goats, dogs and chickens.

Please report any mountain lion or bobcat sightings to the CA Department of Fish & Wildlife at (858) 467-4201 or file a Wildlife Incident Report (WIR) at https://apps.wildlife.ca.gov/wir/incident/create. If your encounter with any wildlife is an emergency, call 911.

Filing a Wildlife Incident Reporting (WIR): The WIR System assigns a designated “Investigator” based on the geographic location of the wildlife incident reported. The Investigator may be a Department Biologist or Wildlife Officer (warden) who will receive general notification by email of an assigned WIR incident. Department staff strive to respond to all WIRs in a timely manner.

Trails Closed Due to Rain

Trails are currently closed through the weekend due to rain. Please do not schedule feed or hay deliveries while the trails are wet. Every year we get one or two drivers who think they can beat the odds and it turns into an ordeal to offload and wait for the trails to be dry enough to send out a rescue. We do not send a general re-opening notice because our 25 miles of trails dry at different rates.

If you are not sure about your specific trail condition, please contact Jeff Hinkle at 949-425-1477 and he will inspect and evaluate.

Rain and Wind Event Caution

With the first rains and high winds of the season upon us please be sure to secure pool toys, lawn furniture pads, umbrellas, and anything else that may blow away. We urge timely action on behalf of equestrians who may be startled by blowing debris. We recommend staying off the trails on windy days.

Regarding clean-up after rain and wind like we had this week, the clean-up can take two weeks. The following is our clean-up priority:

Downed trees blocking streets

Downed trees blocking trails

Fallen branches removed from parks, arenas, streetscapes and trails

Equestrian Center, Tennis and Swim Center debris removal

Debris removal from streetscapes and planters

When walking beneath trees, keep your eyes up to see if there are broken hanging branches. Please notify us at admin@nelliegailranch.org or by text to 949-933-8546 if you see downed trees or large branches. Send a photo and description of the location.

Lap Pool Closure

The Lap Pool will be CLOSED for major repairs to the filtration system on Wednesday and Thursday, December 22nd & 23rd.

Santa and Mrs. Claus Came to Visit Nellie Gail Ranch!

Saturday, December 11 was a wonderful and sunny morning filled with Christmas cheer at the Clubhouse. Many families arrived in holiday attire and excited to take photos and share their wish lists with our beautiful Santa and Mrs. Claus in front of the fireplace. There were a lot of creative kids making crafts, and everyone enjoyed the train rides. The children received bells to wear upon entry, and there was plenty of hot cocoa, coffee, and cookies for all to enjoy. Many thanks to our Contributing Sponsor, Anvil Real Estate/Melody Smith & Associates and to everyone who donated a gift for Toys for Tots. Happy Holidays to you and your family, and may the New Year be filled with happiness and good health.

Pet Safety

One of our owners pets was injured this week in the park by an off leash pet. Please be a good and responsible neighbor by maintaining control of your pet while in parks and on trails. Additionally, people with and without pets are sometimes unsure of a dogs intention and can become fearful when approached on a trail or in a community park by an off leash dog. The below flyer from Mission Viejo Animal Services has information regarding the leash law and pet safety.

Nellie Gail Ranch Owners Association Turns 45

On November 10, 1976 the California Secretary of State affixed the Great Seal of the State of California to the Nellie Gail Ranch Owners Association Articles of Incorporation. While that filing by Presley Development Company brought our community into legal existence, the Nellie Gail Ranch heritage goes much farther back. Back to Lewis Moulton who first rented land for his sheep ranch and later purchased it in 1895. Lewis met and courted Nellie Maud Gail for many years before they married in 1908. Just like the Nellie Gail Ranch families of today, Lewis and Nellie Gail Moulton settled here on their Ranch and raised their two daughters Charlotte and Louise. We encourage you to get to know Nellie and Lewis as more than the namesakes of our community. Nellie was an avid painter and a retrospective of her paintings and drawings are currently on exhibit through November 21, 2021 at the Laguna College of Art in Laguna Beach.

THE ART OF NELLIE GAIL MOULTON | Laguna College of Art and Design (lcad.edu)

You can also visit Aliso Viejo Ranch at 100 Park Avenue which has an original barn and bunkhouse restored to preserve the historical buildings, artifacts and ranching implements from the 1800s. It is a great place for an afternoon visit with your family to see how those who were here before us lived.
