Crime Prevention Workshop

Thank you to Chief of Police Captain De La Rosa and Crime Prevention Specialist Alyssa Rabas for leading the Crime Prevention Workshop at the Association Clubhouse last night. We had a standing room only turnout of 121 attendees watch the presentation and interact during the Q&A and discussion portion of the meeting.

Attached are the handouts provided by the Orange County Sheriff. Of particular interest is the Neighborhood Watch flyer with information on how to start a Neighborhood Watch. Over half of our attendees last night are part of an active Nellie Gail Ranch Neighborhood Watch group. The benefits of being part of a Neighborhood Watch group are apparent by the constructive feedback they shared.

Also of interest is the lead flyer on the attachments related to the interactive Crime Mapping program. This is the site recommended by the OC Sheriff for up to date information on recent crimes occurring in the community: CrimeMapping.com – Helping You Build a Safer Community . Sites like Personalized SpotCrime Report are report based and contain a lot of false alarms and unverified reports while the Crime Mapping site contains Sheriff’s Department confirmed and categorized criminal activity.

The other handouts contain information on personal safety, home security tips and a checklist to evaluate your home security with suggestions for how to “harden the target” and decrease your chances of home burglary.

Please continue to report suspicious people and activity to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department

OCSD’s Crime Mapping Program

Residents of Laguna Hills have the ability to better track public safety issues in their neighborhoods with the OCSD software program, Crime Mapping, which allows anyone to monitor and analyze criminal activity. More specifically, Crime Mapping allows residents to search for 15 types of crime by address, landmark, or zip code. In addition, residents can also sign up for custom-designed alerts, as well as create reports to easily analyze criminal activity near homes, schools, or businesses. The crime data reported on the mobile-friendly application is pulled directly from crimes reported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and is updated every 24 hours. Although the data is preliminary, the Crime Mapping program provides the public with important and timely information, which will increase awareness of criminal activity and promote safer communities.
Laguna Hills residents can sign up for Crime Mapping alerts through the Orange County Sheriff’s Department website at www.ocsd.org/crimemapping

Ballot Collection Update Regarding

CC&R Amendment Restricting Short Term Rentals

To date we have received 465 valid returned ballots. Our goal is to receive a minimum of 1,100 before ballots are counted February 7th so we are a little over 40% of the way there. Please return your ballot at your earliest opportunity. If you need a replacement ballot please contact our office at admin@nelliegailranch.org. Remember, a non-vote is essentially a vote in favor of allowing short term rentals to continue unabated.

Join us for our Monday Night Football at The Watering Hole as the Rams take on the Packers Monday, December 19th!

Equestrian Center Crossing

Proposed Speed Table Petition Results

At the request of Nellie Gail Ranch, the City distributed a petition on November 7th to homes in proximity to the Nellie Gail Road Equestrian Center entry. The petition proposed installation of a speed table to slow traffic at this location. The November 30th deadline for submitting the speed table petition has passed. The city reports it mailed 172 petitions and 25 petitions in favor of a speed table were returned. The city required a minimum of 115 petitions to reach the 67% threshold for approval.

While the speed table is no longer a proposed solution at the Equestrian Center entry, we did receive some enhancement this past year as the City installed additional flashing lights at the crossing median and added additional street markings to better identify two crossings.

We continue to ask homeowners to have heightened awareness of all Equestrian Crossings in Nellie Gail Ranch. Horses are flight animals and subject to startling. When horses are in view it is important to pass slowly, and when crossing, to stop well in front of the crossing.

Thank you to all who participated in the speed table survey, the petition and at the city level.

CC&R Amendment Ballot

Please return your ballot today and make your voice heard. A non-vote is effectively a vote in favor of short-term weekend rentals and the associated use of Nellie Gail Ranch homes for recreational events. This is your best opportunity to take constructive control over the issue of short-term rentals and their associated nuisance to the immediate neighbors.

Join us for our Monday Night Football at The Watering Hole.

Enjoy crafted drinks and delicious eats as the New Orleans Saints take on Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday December 5th!

Gift Cards are now available at The Watering Hole (any amount) for purchase. Just in time for Christmas!

Wine Tasting & Horse Show

Attendees of the Wine Tasting & Horse Show last Saturday were treated to more than just great wine!  They also enjoyed the ambiance of the Nellie Gail Ranch Equestrian Center and an exhibition by some of our world class riders, trainers and horses.  Bree Kenney started things off with a James Bond themed musical freestyle on Dash. Grand Prix Dressage rider and USDF Gold Medalist Cassie Cherry Nolte followed with a patriotic themed freestyle performance on Whizzkid.  To close out the horse show, Grand Prix Jumper Lane Clarke put on a high jumping show on Queen who was flawless over impressive jump heights.  For many attending the wine tasting it was their first visit to the Equestrian Center and an opportunity to see just how special our Equestrian Community is.

Thank you to our contributing sponsor Brad Feldman Group.  Thank you also to Events Committee members Loree Blough, Alex Presley, Susan Phillips and Holly Permeh for planning this unique and fun event!!

Friday, April 30, 2021 – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
We invite you to visit the Association Clubhouse next Friday for a low-key Open House Ribbon Cutting ceremony to officially welcome back our homeowners and club members.

Although we finished the Clubhouse refresh project last year we have not had the opportunity to show it off for your use and enjoyment due to the restrictions on inside gatherings.  However, due to the County of Orange entering a less restrictive tier we can now open our Clubhouse for use with a maximum capacity of 35 people in the main clubhouse and 15 in the multi-purpose room.

We are excited for you to enjoy the remodeled Association Clubhouse and facilities and invite you to come by, not just for the Open House, but anytime you may want to meet and socialize with your friends.

(To meet re-opening safety guidelines we ask that face coverings be worn at all times indoors if not eating or drinking.)

Kindness Rock Garden

Thank you to our Kindness Rock Garden artist participants!  We have received a number of rocks painted with inspirational messages, kind thoughts and lovely artwork.  We have placed them in planters at the front of our clubhouse entry.  As you visit please look and enjoy and appreciate the love and kindness our artists put into them.

And for those of you who picked up kits but have not turned in your rocks yet, please bring them by so we can keep adding to the collection throughout our Clubhouse entry.  There is no deadline or expiration for kind thoughts and expressions!!
