Fire Awareness
The recent Southern California wildfires have raised awareness of the importance of fire safety.  It has also raised the level of anxiety many feel when seeing potential sources of fire in the community.  Now is the time to be extra cautious, extra vigilant,
Here are some examples of things we have received calls on that homeowners should be wary of:
• Many homes have large slopes that are unseen on a regular basis due to distance from the home.  Please review your entire property to evaluate.  The Orange County Fire Authority website has information regarding Vegetation Management, Home Hardening and online assessment tools.   https://ocfa.org/AboutUs/Departments/CommunityRiskReductionDirectory/PreFireManagement.aspx
• Open fires in firepits and fireplaces in backyards.  Now may not be the best time to have these types of open flames, even in firepits and fireplaces.  However, if you do choose to entertain in this manner, please have a fire extinguisher or hose ready to douse any flying embers.
• Vendors welding in proximity to trails and landscape.  All vendors should have awareness of the surroundings they are doing work in and vendors performing work that may involve flames, or potentially sparks, should have appropriate fire extinguishers within reach.
• Leaves or brush on the trail or in the easement.  We maintain the easements consistent with the terms of the easement, for equestrian purposes.  As the easements are on property owned by homeowners, each homeowner may choose to perform a heightened level of maintenance to trim plant material within the easement but outside of the trail or remove tree branches, leaves etc.  If you have questions or concerns regarding your easement maintenance you may call the business office at 949-425-1477 or e-mail Hinkle@NellieGailRanch.org to discuss or request  an appointment for us to visit.

Set your alarms.Be on the lookout for drones.  Legitimate drones flown for legitimate purposes are typically out of site.  If you can see and hear a drone in proximity to your home, particularly if it returns, it may be scoping out potential targets.  Call police dispatch immediately to report drones that are low flying or hovering in site of your home.
